Support to on disability inclusion in healthcare service in August 2024 in collaboration with Borno State Ministry of Health and Human Services and other partners like Acted, CBM and FRAD Foundation.
Multisectoral Needs Assessment in Benue in September 2024 including Focus Group Discussions in on NEPA Quarters IDP Camp, ICHUA IDP Camp, and Baka IDP Camp. 212 households were interviewed and 24 women, 24 girls, 24 boys and 24 men were engaged in focus group discussions to evaluate the needs of IDPs in the 3 camps.
JAREI piloted its Benue State Resilience through Equitable Empowerment for Development project and distributed learning materials to 224 learners in the ICHWA Camp, Benue State. This was a pilot phase of the project. In 2025, JAREI will reach more persons with lifesaving services in health, WASH and livelihood interventions through agriculture and home gardening.
JAREI mounts Community Feedback Response Mechanism in ICHWA IDP Camp. The purpose was to provide information to the IDPs on what to expect during the relocation to the Abagana Mega Camp and take note of their complaints for further escalation with IOM and SEMA. Nine feedbacks were recorded through this help desk and it continues to serve IDPs in the camp.
Food Distribution in Gidan Dutsi IDP Camp, a non-formal camp in Zamfara State for JAREI Year End Giving in the #AidforZamfara event. Food items like rice and spaghetti was distributed to 66 households. JAREI is exploring ways to provide sustainable livelihood interventions to help these families target their food needs and improve the quality of their lives.
JAREI participate in the #16DaysofGBVActivism in Zamfara, Sokoto, Benue, Borno and Plateau State. We partnered with LikeMinds Community Development Initiative in Plateau State to reach over 500 people in Angwan Rukuba, Jos South.
JAREI distribute soaps to 100 women and men in Benue and Zamfara State. This was to help beneficiaries improve hygiene and handwashing in addition to key hygiene messaging. Sensitization was done at 50 water points in 4 IDP camps in Benue State
Gusau, North-West Nigeria.
JAREI is engaged with improving access and quality of education in North-West, Nigeria. In Zamfara State, JAREI is engaged in identifying the education gaps on schools to improve quality and limit challenges of access. The target is to schools that house Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) around Samamru, Gusau, Zamfara State. Our target is to collaborate with the state government to reduce all costs to encourage enrollment and retention. Through trainings teachers capacity are being improved to teach at the right level and provide Psychosocial First Aid and Psychosocial Support to conflict affected learners.
Sokoto, North-West, Nigeria
JAREI implements gender balanced and gender responsive programming by targeting all gender groups. In Sokoto, North-Central Nigeria, JAREI is working with women to advance sustainable hygiene practices including water purification, household hygiene promotion, water management and waste management in line with sustainable climate action. The Jemilius Aid and Relief Initiative is carrying out needs assessments of sanitation facilities in communities hosting IDPs to ensure they are safe, gender disaggregated, secured and clean. After which WASH committees will be instituted for sustainable community engagement.
In Benue, JAREI is working with farmers to provided training, farming inputs and increase access to lands. Increased flooding due to climate change as well as communal clashes and banditry has reduced the farming capacity in Benue State which is a major agricultural hub in Nigeria. Reduced productivity leads to increased food insecurity. JAREI engages with all stakeholders including IDPs, Government and other NGO partners to increase food production capacity especially for vulnerable groups that were forced to flee their homes
JAREI integrates sustainable Climate Action into all of its programming. Addressing this issue at the right age, JAREI engages primary and secondary schools across Markudi and Gusau. In Sokoto, JAREI ensures that climate change topics are added into its WASH information Education and Communication strategies to engage all levels of the community and improve practice. JAREI continues to partner nationally with other NGO partners to address the challenges around climate change, how it impacts in the communities we serve.
